The word crystal is derived from the ancient Greek word (krustallos) & are solid materials/objects whereby atoms or molicules form together over & over depicting fascinating geometric shapes fashioned by an orderly repeating pattern. Crystals can be found in many places, precious gemstones such as Emeralds, Diamonds & Rubies are also crystals whereas sugar & salt are some common crystals. The scientific study of crystals & that of crystal formation is called Crystallography.
The beauty & wonders of Crystals have been around for antiquity, there are many different types & are used for many different purposes & reasons. Beautiful to hehold whether they are used to adorn jewellry,as ornaments or in healing therapy or protection. They can be made into elixrs, used in meditation however one of the simplist ways to benefit from their vibrational energy is to wear them such as our ancestors did in the form of tallismans & amulets.
Crystalline rocks which form from volcanic lava or metamorphic rocks ( which is from the lowest part of the Earths crust) each have their own special attributes when used in healing.Crystal healing became more popular n the 1980s' although first records show around the 1600's & again in the 19th Century where conflicting evidence of whether crystal vibrations truly aided in healing. Yet I have experienced some remarkable benefits when using & have noticed a dramatic effect in the atmosphere of rooms where they are strategically placed.
Gemstones & Crystals have also played a part in many religions, being mentioned in the Bible, the Koran & in Hinduism & Buddhists. In the Koran, the Fourth Heaven is composed of garnet & the origin of birthstones is believed to be from the breastplate of Aaron, known as the " Breastplate of Judgement" or the High Priest's Breastplate",which is mentioned in the book of Exodus. This was adorned with twelve gems representing each tribe of Israel & placed in four rows of three. Translation of each gemstone has differed over time however one version being:
Ruby, Topaz, Emerald
Turquoise, Sapphire, Diamond
Jacinth, Agate, Amethyst
Beryl,Onyx, Jasper
For many centuries different cultures have had different beliefs on the actual meanings of each crystal, however birthstones seem to remain consistant. One thing for sure is to choose a birthstone as your main focus as the natural energy vibrations you will find can resonate with your own. There are so many to choose from & some require expert care as they can be very toxic ~ You may find that when choosing your crystal you will be naturally drawn to a particular one ( or two) & discard others. There is a popular saying that the crystal "chooses" you & not the other way round.
